Reaching the Stars is a transnational Eramus+ partnership project, which aims to develop guidance and counselling in adult education. The project began in January 2022 and will run for 26 months, until the end of February 2024. During this time, the partners will create and collect a series of guidance and counselling practices, which can facilitate adult learners to broaden their own visions for the future. In addition, the practices will help adult learners to reflect on ways to reach their personal goals.
Reaching the Stars continues in the footsteps of a previous Erasmus+ project, Improving Guidance and Counselling, where the project consortium collected practices for recognising the competences of adult learners. Reaching the Stars will advance the previous work by focusing on how adult learners can reach their goals while taking into account their personal competences and background. Accordingly, the project centres on the concept of hope-based guidance and counselling, which means that it places an empahsis on helping adult learners to better envision their own hopes and wishes for the future.

Project Result 1: Handbook for guidance and counselling
For adult educators and counsellors
The handbook presents tailored questions for different guidance scenarios in adult education. The handbook offers tools for each of the following scenarios: (a) the learner already has a clear future goal, (b) the learner is considering several alternative goals, and (c) the learner does not yet have any future goals. The handbook takes a hope-based approach towards guidance and counselling. Instead of directing the learner towards a predetermined career path, it is designed to help the learner to better reflect on their personal interests and future objectives.
In addition to the guidance questions, the handbook includes two appendices: a theoretical background text concerning hope-based guidance and counselling, and a report of the project’s research activities implemented prior to the development of the handbook.

Project Result 2: Playing cards for guidance and counselling
For adult learners (together with the counsellor)
The playing cards present various competences that adult learners could develop or use in their future study or career path. The cards come with seven sets of rules for games that can be utilised in counselling. These games can be used to help adult learners better reflect on their own competences and future goals.

Project Result 3: Digital tool for guidance and counselling
For adult learners (either independently or together with the counsellor)
The digital tool offers information and exercises related to different areas of hope-based guidance and counselling. The tool is divided in five modules: motivation, self-reflection, self-efficacy, self-esteem and future-orientation. The modules can be used to strengthen adult learners’ competence in each of these areas.
The 3rd Transnational Project Meeting for the "Reaching the Stars" project, held in Lublin, Poland, from January 16th to 19th, 2023, involved various partner organizations.
The meeting included discussions on project results, such as conducted research and the presentation of a handbook (PR1), as well as activities within phases 1 and 2, including visualizations of cards and proposed competences (PR2). There were also deliberations on digital materials for guidance and counseling (PR3), transferring offline materials to online, and establishing concepts and arrangements among partners. The meeting covered practical aspects like risk management, communication, and future project schedules. The partners were assigned tasks and deadlines for upcoming work, including proposals for an online platform, card games, and occupation descriptions. Additionally, future events, including an LTTA in Italy and the next TPM in Slovenia, were planned.

LTTA (Learning Teaching and Training Activity) Event in Milazzo, Italy
The beautiful town of Milazzo, Italy, with its historic castles and stunning sea views, recently hosted a special event called Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity (LTTA) from May 9th to 11th, 2023. This event brought together people from different places to learn from each other and make new friends.
The event started on May 8th when everyone arrived. People came from different parts of the world, excited to learn and share with each other. The event officially began on May 9th at the Castle of Milazzo. Participants started the day by visiting the Castel and playing games and getting to know each other. Then they went to the MuMa Sea Museum to learn about the sea's history. During lunch, they had delicious food and talked about their ideas. In the afternoon, they talked about the activities they would do in the next days and listened to what everyone thought.
May 10th (Counselor Materials & Methods): On May 10th, they talked about different ways to teach. They met at the Palazzo D'Amico and talked about materials for counselors, who help people with advice. They also talked about materials for adults who are learning new things. They took breaks to drink coffee and continued talking about teaching. The day finished with many ideas about how to make learning better.
May 11th–12th (Digital Guidance & Departure): The next day, May 11th, they focused on using computers and the internet to teach. They talked about how to use online materials in teaching. They met again at Palazzo D'Amico and had more conversations. They also talked about how to use these ideas in their own schools and organizations. The event ended on May 12th when everyone went back to their homes. They left with new memories, new friends, and lots of new things to think about.
Reflections: This event in Milazzo showed that learning is better when we work together. By sharing our ideas and learning from each other, we can make education even more exciting. As the event came to a close, the spirit of learning and friendship continued to inspire everyone who took part. It reminded us that we grow and learn the most when we open our hearts and minds to new experiences.

TPM in Messina: May 16th – May 19th
A transnational meeting held in Messina, Italy to discuss the focus group/interview design for the project. The meeting will include a discussion on the design for the focus groups and interviews that will be conducted as part of the project. The meeting will also include planning for the handbook, which will be a key outcome of the project.
The focus group/interview design and handbook planning will be crucial for the success of the project as they will provide a structure and a framework for the data collection and analysis, and the production of the handbook that will be shared with all the partners.
The meeting include a visit to different parts of Messina and historical places.

Kick Off Meeting
The highly-anticipated project has officially begun, as the first transnational meeting of partner institutions was successfully held online from January 25th to 27th, 2022.
The meeting brought together key players from multiple institutions, providing an opportunity for collaboration and the drive to move the project forward. This marks a significant milestone for the project and sets the stage for a productive and successful journey ahead.
